Libido supplements, as the name suggests, can help increase your sexual desire. But this is just one benefit of such supplements. They can also help ensure rock solid erections. Not just this, they can also stimulate the production of testosterone in your body.

Testosterone is not just the male sex hormone but is also responsible for controlling a whole lot of vital body functions in men. It is this hormone that is accredited with your big biceps and muscular physique. Not just this, it is also the hormone that influences your mood levels. Testosterone is what gives men their aggressive behavior. However, a drop in testosterone levels can make men irritable and depressed.

Not just this, it is also the hormone with fat burning potential. A drop in testosterone levels results in fat accumulation in your body, particularly along the waist line.

Libido supplements contain ingredients such as:

l-arginine
panax ginseng
ginkgo biloba
muira pauma
DHEA
acai berry
tribulus terrestris etc.,

What is L- Arginine?

This is a non essential amino acid that is important for 3 very important functions in your body. First of all, it helps increase nitric oxide secretion that helps in the dilation of blood vessels so that more blood can flow into the penis resulting in improved libido and harder erections. Nitric oxide not only helps facilitate harder erections but also helps aid in muscle growth and repair. This is why many body builders take l-arginine supplements.

Secondly, it helps boost the level of testosterone. Lastly, it also stimulates the production of HGH in your body.

L-Arginine is a non essential amino acid and is necessary for normal functioning of the pituitary gland.

Role of Ginseng

Ginseng is one of the oldest herbs that is known to the mankind. It not only increases blood flow throughout the body but also helps beat stress. Not just this, it also helps increase the production of sperm in men. It acts as a whole body vitalizer and helps improve your energy levels. It is a great libido booster for men.

Ginkgo Biloba

When it comes to curing libido and erectile problems in men, Ginkgo biloba is the herb that can be extremely effective. It boost blood flow to the sex organs and this is why it is a great sexual stimulant. Men throughout the world take ginkgo supplements to help them overcome sexual problems.

Tribulus Terrestris

Another great ingredient in such supplements is tribulus terrestris. This is a herb that is an excellent testosterone booster. It can also help increase your stamina and energy levels.

A combination of above herbs and many more natural ingredients can help you get a powerful libido and rock solid erections so as to rekindle your sex life.

Vitamin E – Hope for Alzheimer’s Patients

2010-12-29 / Supplements / 0 Comments

Of all the diseases associated with aging, I believe that the one people fear the most is Alzheimer’s disease, an irreversible form of dementia that is characterized by the slow, steady destruction of key areas in the brain. Typical symptoms include loss of memory and the inability to speak and process information. As the disease progresses, its victims lose awareness of themselves and others and often require round-the-clock care.

Some 4 millions Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, and experts predict that by 2020, that number could rise to over 10 million. Alzheimer’s is a late-onset disease in that most of its victims are over sixty-five. In fact, about 10 percent of all Americans over age sixty-five have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. However, in rare cases, it can strike people in their forties and fifties. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, although there are some drugs that may forestall the progress of the disease for some people.

Although we don’t know the cause of Alzheimer’s, we do know that it results in profound injury to brain tissue, notably the death of neurons, the worker cells of the brain. In particular, Alzheimer’s is marked by the accumulation of a protein in the brain called beta amyloid. Since neural membranes are highly susceptible to oxidative damage, free radicals are also believed to be involved in the progression, if not the onset, of Alzheimer’s disease as well as other degenerative brain diseases. The brain tissue of Alzheimer’s patients typically has higher levels of lipid peroxidation, a sign of oxidative damage, then disease-free people of the same age. Many researchers suspect that free radical damage to neurons may inhibit the ability of nerve cells to produce adequate levels of neurotransmitters and other chemicals in the brain that organize thought processes and help brain cells communicate. As we get older, there is a factor decline in the production of neurotransmitters, which is a factor in normal brain aging. However, this decline may be greatly accelerated in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients.

Animal and test tube studies have strongly suggested that vitamin E may play a role in preventing Alzheimer’s disease by protecting brain cells against free radical attack. We have performed numerous experiments in my laboratory that demonstrate that vitamin E (along with Coenzyme Q10, the other fat-soluble antioxidant) can reduce lipid peroxidation in the brain. What’s even more exciting is that a recent multi-institution double-blind, placebo-controlled study conducted by the Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study showed that vitamin E worked even better than standard drug therapy in treating Alzheimer’s patients.

In this study, a total of 341 patients with early Alzheimer’s disease of moderate severity were divided into 4 groups. The first group received 10 milligrams of selegiline, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor; daily; the second group as given 2000 I.U. of vitamin E daily and the fourth group was given a placebo. The purpose of the study was to determine whether any of these therapies could slow down the progress of the disease so that patients would not deteriorate as rapidly. After 2 years, the researchers reported that the risk of reaching the most severe stage of Alzheimer’s disease was 53% lower in the group taking vitamin E alone, 43% lower in the drug group, and 31% lower in the combination group than in the group taking the placebo. Of all these treatments, vitamin E alone worked the best.

Based on the growing number of studies that show vitamin E and other antioxidants can protect against so-called brain aging, vitamin E may prove to be useful in delaying the onset of Alzheimer’s disease, or in some cases, even preventing it from occurring in the first place by protecting brain tissue against oxidative damage.

Vitamin D and Sunlight

2010-12-23 / Vitamins / 0 Comments

In the past few years, there seems to be a lot of discussion about vitamin D and the largest source we derive this critical vitamin from, UVB exposure. What has come to light in several studies over the past decade is the vital importance vitamin D plays in our overall health.

Not only in our overall health, but also in the prevention of several diseases, cancer, and even depression and mood disorders. The field of traditional western medicine can no longer deny that vitamin D plays a pivotal role in human functionality and wellness.

So, what of the past recommendations to avoid sunlight exposure at all costs, and to lather on the sunscreen whenever you’re going out in the sun? Are those warnings still valid, or have we crossed a critical path into an awareness that we didn’t have before, which makes those old “avoidance” beliefs archaic?

There is an increasing body of evidence that shows that our practices of staying out of the sun and always wearing sunscreen may actually be contributing to the prominence of cancers. This, even when the whole point of the sunlight warnings was to avoid cancer – specifically, skin cancer.

The startling truth though, is that avoiding the sun and also not getting enough vitamin D in the diet or in supplementation form, actually can increase your risk of many different types of cancer. Why is this?

Vitamin D, it has been discovered, actually plays a vital role in preventing the mutation of healthy cells into cancerous, quickly multiplying cells. Because of this important property, by avoiding the sunlight, which is our best source for vitamin D, we are actually unknowingly making it easier for cancer cells to grow.

Not only is a deficiency in this vitamin dangerous as far as cancer formation goes, it also can lead to an increased risk of depression, diabetes, and mood and mental disorders such as schizophrenia. It seems that our bodies were meant to absorb UVB light, which is the primary way we make vitamin D.

When UVB light hits your skin, there is a reaction which creates this vitamin in the surface of the skin. Over the next several hours, your body absorbs this vitamin. So awesome is this natural process, that your body knows when to stop absorbing and utilizing the vitamin your skin has created.

And so this process is a naturally regulating way to absorb this nutrient. It’s a perfectly built function of nature really, and we deprive our bodies of this when we stay out of the sunlight all of the time, or we layer on the sunscreen, which prevents this process from occurring.

This does not mean that one should bake themselves in the sun for hours with no protection. The skin should NEVER go beyond a very light shade of pink. Burning the skin through UV exposure is still never a good thing. Burning still causes DNA damage, and can lead to skin cancer.

However, getting just the right amount of exposure with no protection, and with no burning, is practically a must for good health and disease protection.

Out of the two different spectrums of UV light, UVB is the only one that makes the body produce vitamin D. When you are exposed to this light, whether in a tanning booth or in the natural sun, be sure to not take a shower for at least 6 hours.

This way, your body has time to manufacture, as well as absorb, the nutrient from the surface of the skin. If you must shower, try not to use soap at least on the largest exposure parts like the legs, stomach and arms. This way, you are minimally interrupting this natural process and will garner the greatest absorption.

Speaking of tanning booths and beds, if you are using these to get UVB exposure, use caution. First of all, do not ever let your skin get burnt. Second, ask the operator which booths use UVB and UVA rays.

The reason I say this is that most tanning beds use primarily UVA rays, which do not cause the skin to make vitamin D. Use the bed with the higher level of UVB rays. You will not get as “tan” from these, but you will get more vitamin D, and that is what is most important.

Last but not least, always use caution and common sense when exposing yourself to UVB light. If you are naturally fair skinned, know your skin’s time limit in the sun, and make sure you do not exceed it.

Getting burnt defeats the healthful purpose of sunlight exposure, and can increase your risk of skin cancer and DNA damage, as well as premature aging.

Quality Is Key (What High Quality Nutritional Supplements and Cars Have in Common)

2010-12-21 / Supplements / 0 Comments

The quality of a product is essential, especially when it comes to what you put in your body. Recently there have been many negative news stories about nutritional supplements. There have been many questions raised regarding the quality of the products produced by the industry as a whole.

Thankfully, not all products are made equal to one another. It is important to know that just like there are different types and quality levels of cars, the same goes for nutritional products. For example, there is a very large difference between a modest Ford or Chevy and a Mercedes Benz or Bentley. Similarly, there is also a large difference between a very entry level nutritional product (ie: from A to Zinc, and many other name brand products,) and a top of the line five star rated product. Luckily, you do not have to pay the cost of a top of the line luxury car to get the highest quality nutritional products. In fact, you can get the Rolls Royce and Bentley of the nutritional supplement industry for only a dollar and forty cents a day. This is less than it costs to buy a bottle of water from most vending machines.

Below is a list of some things that High Quality Nutritional Supplements and Luxury Cars have in common:

Speed- Both luxury, performance cars and nutritional products are designed to go very fast. A good and powerful nutritional product will dissolve and break down in the body within a very short period of time. If it does not break down within 30-45 minutes, it is very unlikely that it will break down at all and go straight through the body the same shape it came in.

Horsepower- High Powered cars need a lot of power under there hood to allow them to go very fast and perform optimally. Also, high performance cars A good nutritional product needs to be formulated with high levels of vitamins and minerals in order for the body to perform optimally and protect against disease. These levels are much higher than what many average products offer and state on there labels.

Protection and Safety- Luxury and high performance cars have many extra features that are designed to prevent damage and injury to both the car and the individuals inside. While high quality nutritional supplements are designed to give your body the optimal protection it needs to protect against oxidative stress in the body. High quality nutritional products are also safe for the body because they do not contain any preservatives or potential toxins that can hurt the body.

As with any type of important purchase, it is imperative to do the proper due diligence and research to make sure you are getting the best product for your money and your body. Below are some things to look for when choosing a nutritional product for yourself.
Bio available- make sure that the product will easily dissolve and break down in the body.
Potent
Complete- make sure that the product contains all of the necessary vitamins and minerals in optimal amounts necessary to keep your body healthy.
Safe- products need to be created in a safe environment where there is no chance of cross contamination, and safe for your body without any dangerous side effects.
Pure- the cleanest and healthiest ingredients need to be used. These ingredients are healthy for the body, and will have minimal chance of overdose.

A good resource to learn about different brands and types of supplements is the Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements that is published by the Nutrisearch Corporation. I personally recommend looking for products that have scored a gold medal rating, and are in the top five products.

Why Natural? Why Naturopathy?

2010-12-18 / Other / 0 Comments

Naturopathy is actually a 19th century word that means, natural cure. Those who practice natural therapies and treatments in a traditionally medical world are called Naturopaths. Those who take part in this natural way of healing believe that the body can heal itself if it is given the right conditions. Dating as far back as Hippocrates, the practice of naturopathy works to treat the person as a whole and not just a symptom that he may be experiencing. Factors such as physical health, mental and emotional health, and circumstances or environment are all carefully considered during this treatment process. This alternative form of treatment has long been popular in European countries, and is now quickly becoming more widespread in the United States and other parts of the world. If you are wondering why natural methods such as this have suddenly gained so much attention, then look and see what kind of results they are getting.

A naturopathic doctor will use a variety of natural and conventional medical techniques to discover the root cause of ones illness or disorder. Then they usually work to help educate their patient and prescribe a natural treatment that will help get them quickly on the path to recovery. Usually not only is an herbal medicine given, but a healthful diet is encouraged.

In an unbalanced world, naturopaths work to being some balance back to our bodies. We can turn back to nature for simple and wholesome cures rather than turning to man made and chemically processed drugs that do not put our bodies in a healthful state. Natural treatments are not only about the treatment, but a way of life.

There is a tremendous emphasis on wellness as a whole being and promoting optimal health through pure fresh water, a wholesome diet, plenty of fresh air, sunshine and exercise, and the right diet of foods and herbs that will help heal illnesses and stimulate life.

Naturopaths also recognize symptoms that are outside the physical realm. Stress is recognized as a very significant contributor in a number of sicknesses.

They will asses ones lifestyle and level of stress and interpersonal relationships, considering how these might affect the health of the overall person. Natural therapies and substances can help provide balance, but they want to make sure that outside factors are not inhibiting these substances from healing the body.

Natural treatment has historically been used to heal persons who were affected with a number of serious conditions, including things like: digestive disorders, allergies, reproductive imbalances, nervous system imbalances, weight loss or weight gain, and Musculoskeletal or Cardiovascular conditions.

Naturopathy has been found particularly effective for chronic symptoms that individuals have struggled with for a long period of time. Why use prescription drugs and man made chemical treatments when there are more natural cures that are particularly effective? These are healthier for our bodies, and as they are straight from Nature itself, we know that they cannot have harmful side effects such is the case with many traditional treatments.

Will Niacin Help You If You Take Medication for Cholesterol?

2010-12-17 / Other / 0 Comments

Niacin, also known commonly as B-3, is proving beneficial for those on statins for cholesterol control. But in addition to those benefits, there are many other benefits that Niacin has in the body that may surprise you.

In numerous studies, Niacin has been shown to lower cholesterol, so even if you are taking some type of statin drug, the odds are that Niacin may allow you to take a lower dose which can help minimize the statin drug side effects. There is, of course, the harmless flushing of the skin that typically occurs in many individuals that take Niacin, but it goes away in 20 minutes.

So what are some of the other benefits one may expect from Niacin?

For statin users who are typically fatigued, you may be surprised to know that B-3 (Niacin) is critical in the function of converting proteins, carbohydrates, and fats into energy. In addition, it has proven to be a valuable nutrient in improving circulation, boosting memory power, as well as general functioning of the brain. These reasons alone are why it was included in the breakthrough product Statin Relief that was formulated to reduce or eliminate the side effects of statin drugs.

Niacin is very important in the manufacture of sex hormones in the body and may play a role for those who are having sexual dysfunction issues, which can be a side effect of statins. The fact that niacin improves the circulatory system, delivering more blood and more nutrients to areas of the body, may prove to be important in solving the sexual problems one may encounter.

There are now dozens of studies that show Niacin has been used to improve mental health and memory, as well as being a tremendous aid for diabetes patients in controlling their blood sugar. (Memory loss has been reported as a side effect of statin drugs.)

B-3 (Niacin) has been shown to be severely deficient in people with weak muscles, indigestion, skin irritations, or pellagra.

The good news is that typically men and women can get what they need in about 20mg a day of B-3, and being a water based vitamin, what the body doesn’t need is washed out in the form of urine. However, you require a constant supply of Niacin, so if you are taking statin drugs for cholesterol, be sure to speak with your doctor about adding this. Or better yet, grab a bottle of the new Statin Relief product that many stores are now carrying.

Fat Burners

2010-12-14 / Other / 0 Comments

Have you heard of Fat Burners or Thermogenics? You know? The diet pills that claim to help you to lose weight and tone up? You may have even used some sort of product with the fancy packaging… Now when I say fancy packaging – I mean that’s all that’s ‘fancy’ about most of these products!

You’ll notice most of these tend to come with bold claims and well written flyers which tend to contain ridiculous testimonials from some guy or gal who lives half way across the other side of the world – and may possibly have never even used the product they’re promoting!

What I first started wondering was this: If this product worked so well at ‘melting fat’, or ‘creating a sexier slimmer you’ then why wasn’t it advertised through mainstream media? And why did I keep getting feedback from people like, ‘I can’t tell if it’s working?’

Probably because it wasn’t working at all – I wasn’t just getting this feedback from others… I was also getting this feedback from myself when trialing these products. Now read closely…

There’s a secret I want to share with you about these Fat Burners that the supplement industry doesn’t want you to know… (This only applies to countries that don’t have strict supplement regulations, and New Zealand’s one of them!)

The real secret: When a new product is placed on the shelves of your local supermarket or health food store, it doesn’t need to be tested or ‘approved’ effective or safe by any particular authority. This means that unless the product contains a ‘banned substance’ – it will be readily distributed and sold to you – the unaware consumer.

Pretty scary isn’t it?

Are you feeling confused and maybe even a little frustrated? I know I was when I found these facts out!

So what to do now? When looking at any supplement, make sure that it’s produced at Pharmaceutical Grade GMP’s (Good’s Manufacturing Practices) which will guarantee you the potency and purity of a product, along with what’s printed on the label is 100% what’s inside the bottle or tablet – No more guesswork.

The best fat burner invented: Don’t you think that if there was a fat burner invented that ‘melted the fat away’ or ‘created a sexier slimmer you in days’ it would be all the rage across the world? Of course it would be! So what I’m saying is that there are certain ingredients that help our body to burn the optimal amount of fat and the majority of it you get from food and quality nutrition such as Pharmaceutical Grade Multivitamins – Which there are only a few makers in the world that produce products at a high enough grade to be worthwhile taking.

So next time you reach for the fancy packaged slimming product, think about it logically and invest your time into something more worthwhile, like seeing a Personal Trainer. – Have them customize a plan to get you the results you want on time and on budget.

L-Ascorbic Acid

2010-12-10 / Vitamins / 0 Comments

Everyone knows Vitamin C, as it is contained in many foods and is also produced by many companies as a supplement. However, not many people know what it is made up of.

Most scientists know this, but public and most doctors usually have no idea about this. Chemically speaking, the main component of Vitamin C, which is called ascorbic acid, has two separate forms. These are “L”-Ascorbic Acid and D-Ascorbic Acid. The L component of Vitamin C is the active part, and this is the one that has health benefits. The D-component of Vitamin C, research shows, is useless and is gotten rid of by the body. When you eat Vitamin C, you only benefit from the “L” side of ascorbic acid. Despite the beliefs of many people, Vitamin C is not a stable thing, and the L and D components can change when moisture or water is added.

E.g. in a fruit, the Vitamin C primarily occurs as the L component. However, when you extract the juice, after a few days, some of the “L” side changes to D. The same will happen with a frozen fruit concentrate, when melted and with water added, or when Vitamin C is added by manufacturers to drinks.

Is There A Difference Between Natural And Artificial Vitamin C?

Most vitamin C supplements are ascorbic acid, calcium ascorbate, magnesium ascorbate or potassium ascorbate. Chemically synthesized supplements are not natural vitamin C. And these synthetic molecules copy only one of the numerous ingredients found in natural vitamin C. In the 1930s, Dr. Szent-Gyorgyi, the scientist who isolated the molecule ascorbic acid, stated that the best results occurred when people consumed vitamin C in its natural food form.

But actually, ascorbic acid is only the antioxidant factor of a whole nutritional complex that contains many different factors that we call the Vitamin C Complex. The full vitamin C complex also contains the P factors, which make the vessels stronger and more durable and handle the “pink toothbrush” symptom. Vitamin K helps in blood clotting.

Another part of the C complex, the J factor increases the oxygen carrying ability of the blood, helps oxidize toxins and get rid of them. Additionally, the C complex also contains enzymes. The main one is tyrosinase, which is organic copper enzyme, an adrenal activator.

Omega-3 Supplements Fight Candida Overgrowth

2010-12-09 / Supplements / 0 Comments

Fungal infections are more common than you think; in fact, they are often the hidden cause behind popular maladies like ADHD. The organism usually responsible for these infections is candida, a type of yeast that can be found in the gastrointestinal tract, mouth, and genital area. There are several natural ways to fight the overgrowth of this bacteria, such as reintroducing “good” bacteria and taking omega-3 supplements.

Normally, candida growth is kept in check by good bacteria. However, certain factors like antibiotic use, a depressed immune system, and a high-sugar diet creates an environment that allows candida to thrive. When this happens, candida morphs into tentacle-like fungus spores that damage the gut wall and mucosal tissues. Candida can also produce a toxic gas that penetrates the damaged intestinal wall and enters the bloodstream. Through this passageway, they can reach various parts of the body and create candida colonies outside of the gut. Such areas include the joints, muscles, and sinuses.

Candida symptoms are generally grouped into three categories. If you find yourself experiencing these symptoms, you may have a candida infection.

Category 1: toxicity due to leaky gut
Muscle pain
Migraine
Food allergies

Group 2: damage to the endocrine system
Athlete’s foot
Cystitis
PMS
Thrush
Joint pain
Ear infection
Asthma
Water retention
Sinusitis
Chronic fatigue

Group 3: intestinal problems
Flatulence
Diarrhea
Bloating
Itchy anus

Treating a candida infection involves reintroducing “good bacteria” like bifido bacteria or lactobacilli into the gut so they can become the dominant bacteria once more. These bacteria can also restore food absorption and efficient digestion, which will help you recover from any nutritional deficiencies the candida infection caused. However, bacteria alone will not solve the problem; you’ll need to make dietary changes too. The simplest way is to avoid eating sugar, yeast, and simple carbohydrates, which candida thrives upon. Eat only fresh food and drink lots of clean water.

Omega-3 supplements with eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and omega-6 fatty acid gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) also have certain properties that can quell candida infections. Once in the body, these fatty acids get converted into leukotrines and prostraglandins, which improve immune cell response and regulates hormones. Their anti-inflammatory benefits also alleviate joint problems and irritable bowel-type symptoms from the infections.

Stress is one factor that aggravates candida infection symptoms. Omega-3 fats can improve your brain’s response to stress, balances mood, and neutralizes the negative effect of cortisol, the stress hormone.

One other reason to take omega-3 fats and GLA supplements is the nutritional deficiencies caused by the candida overgrowth. Low vitamin and mineral levels prevents the body from absorbing and utilizing the fatty acids you consume. Some studies suggest that candida overgrowth is linked to low levels of omega-3 fats. When you supplement your recovery plan with omega-3 fatty acids, you can overcome the problems posed by poor nutrient absorption in a gut filled with hostile candida bacteria.

You can obtain EPA from fish oil supplements and GLA from primrose oil extract. Look for a supplement that has both EPA and GLA for easier consumption.
